The mission of Begindergarten™ is...To help local, incoming kindergarten students gain the skills they need in order to enter kindergarten successfully.
Begindergarten™ is a Kindergarten Readiness Program that offers local incoming kindergarten students an opportunity to participate in 15 hours of kindergarten readiness intervention each week, for 6 weeks during the summer.
In 2013, 82 children entered local kindergarten classrooms better prepared for success in school, as a direct result of the Reading Railroad Begindergarten™ program.
Each year the Reading Railroad of Cass County distributes over 13,000 books to local children. These books are free and are given to help foster a love of reading. Book distribution times and places will be listed on our monthly calendar.
First Grade Library Visits
This special school program helps promote reading and library usage among local first grade students. Each month, Reading Railroad meets the Logansport Community School Corporation, All Saints Elementary and Thompson Elementary first grade classes at the public library for a literacy activity and reading promotion.
School Readiness Network
This new school readiness initiative, established through the Cass County Resource Network, helps build effective relationships between Cass County early childhood advocates.
With Reading Railroad serving as the facilitator, the SRN is bringing together local preschool teachers, daycare providers and kindergarten teachers, to work on increasing the quality of early childhood experiences in Cass County; boosting overall school readiness in our shared community.
