Cass County Reading Railroad is an Early Literacy Program to help change lives in Cass County, Indiana by supporting parents as their child's first teacher and to help children achieve their utmost by kindergarten and first grade.
Ø BegindergartenTM is a six-week summer program that helps children prepare to enter kindergarten and is taught by teachers. Children who are identified as not being ready at kindergarten round-up are invited to attend. Children are provided breakfast, lunch and transportation.
Ø Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library we fund one age-appropriate book per month for children who are signed up and live in Cass County. This is done from birth to age 5. There are 1,200 children in the program, which is 14,400 books being distributed, per year, in Cass County homes.
Ø Business Partner Program provides a person from a local business to be partnered with a Pre-K through second grade classrooms for eight months of the school year. The volunteer is given a book to read to their class each month. That book is given to the classroom for their class library. They do an activity and have a snack based on the book of the month. This includes Caston, Lewis Cass, Logansport and Pioneer.
Ø First Grade Library Visits are done each month for Logansport and Lewis Cass Schools. The children are bused to their Public Library where volunteers work with them on learning about the library and checking out books. They are also read to and get to participate in activities. Many children would not otherwise have the opportunity to go to the Public Library.
